Mastic Surface Grinding

Mastic surface grinding is the removal of leftover glue after the tile floor has been removed.  This type of removal will work for either asbestos or non-asbestos applications.

The type of asbestos commonly used in tile adhesives or mastic can vary, but chrysotile asbestos (white asbestos) was often used in these products. Chrysotile is the most common form of asbestos and was widely utilized in various construction materials, including adhesives, due to its flexibility and heat-resistant properties.

Asbestos-Containing mastics

It’s important to note that asbestos-containing mastics and adhesives were commonly used until the late 20th century, and the use of asbestos in such products diminished as awareness of the associated health risks increased. If you are dealing with tile adhesive that may contain asbestos, it is crucial to take appropriate precautions to prevent the release of asbestos fibers into the air during removal.

Grinding or disturbing asbestos-containing materials without proper precautions can lead to the release of airborne asbestos fibers, posing significant health risks to those in the vicinity. Always follow safety guidelines, local regulations, and seek professional assistance when dealing with asbestos-containing materials.
